Egyptian archaeologists discover
3,500 year old tomb
By Nancy Nguyen
After months of digging, a team of Egyptian archaeologists “unearthed a tomb that belonged to the goldsmith” who, once lived in a desert province of Luxor. The goldsmith’s name is Amenemhat, and he lived in Egypt approximately 3,500 years ago. The hardworking goldsmith’s work was dedicated to the ancient Egyptian sun god, Ra. The Egyptian antiquities workers discovered three ancient mummies in this tomb. An antiquity worker is someone who examines the quality of the ancient mummies.
Then the archaeologists were able to figure out information about these mummies. One mummy was probably a jeweler in their village, who “lived around 1567 B.C. to 1320 B.C,” according to The New York Times. He dedicated his work to the sun god, Amon- Re and at that time Re was the most powerful god. This tomb was found in the Draa Abul- Naga necropolis for noblemen. Also inside the tomb, there were sarcophagi, statuettes, pots, and many different artifacts that were found.
These artifacts belong to Amenemhat, this means the god of “Amen is in the Forefront.” "Amen was in the forefront with his wife Amenhotep”, said Mostafa Al- Waziri to the NY Times. Mostafa Al- Waziri is leading the Egyptian team which uncovered the ancient tomb. Researchers also find out that there are many other skulls inside of the tomb. The archaeologists also found a mummy of a woman and her two children standing in another burial.
Experts predict they may have suffered from a disease. These tombs can hold clues that can be the answers to how the people lived back then. By analyzing the mummies and skulls, and the items found in the tomb can help archaeologists determine, how the person lived, what his or her career was and if they had a family or not. There are so many amazing facts you can discover just by exploring a mummy and its tomb.

Princess Diana: The life and legacy of the people’s princess
By Sam Hurlburt
August 31, 2017 marked the 20th anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales at age 36. Worldwide, Diana became known as, “The People’s Princess,” but what do we really know about the life of this remarkable British woman, who some say she left the world too soon?
Princess Diana was one of the most photographed women in the world and the media constantly hounded her. While on vacation in Paris, her car was involved in relentlessly chase by photographers on motorcycles hoping to capture her picture. Instead, her car fatally crashed in a tunnel. It is believed that if the photographers had stop to help her, instead of continuing to take pictures, she may have lived. Today, the site of the crash has been turned into a memorial where people can both celebrate her life and mourn her death.
Born Diana Frances Spencer on July 1, 1961, in Sandringham, Norfolk, England into British aristocracy, she was the third daughter of Viscount Spencer and Frances Roche. In 1975, at age 14, she became known as Lady Diana Spencer when her father inherited the title of Earl after his father’s passing. From a very young age, Diana had been home schooled. However, at age 9, she transitioned to a private boarding school. She was not a good student academically; however she excelled at ballet and swimming.
Diana’s family had been closely connected with the British royal family for many generations and some believed it was almost a guarantee that a Spencer family member would marry into the royal family. Diana had always had a girlhood crush on Charles, Prince of Wales who is the son of Queen Elizabeth II. Charles is the heir to the British throne. They started dating in 1980 and he soon proposed marriage to her in February 1981, giving her a huge diamond-sapphire engagement ring. The royal wedding on July 29, 1981 was celebrated as “The Wedding of the Century.” Globally, an estimated 750 million people watched the televised ceremony.

As the wife of Prince Charles, Diana became involved in various humanitarian (people helping) charities. One of the things that made Diana special was her support for causes that the royal family normally did not openly support. She sponsored many AIDS charities during a time when it almost forbidden to publicly address the topic of AIDS. Diana and Charles divorced in 1992 after 11 years of marriage. Once divorced, she would not be able to serve as the Queen of England, it was said that she hoped to be “The Queen of People’s Hearts” instead. Diana continued on as a mother to their two sons and with her charity work.
In the mid-1990s, in what turned out to be one of her last crusades, she sought to bring global attention to the southern African country of Angola and the use of landmines there. Angola had been stricken with civil war and because of that, landmines had been planted. A landmine is a device which is placed on the ground and explodes when it is triggered by a person or a vehicle. Many innocent people in Angola had been killed or disfigured because of these devices. Even though she was criticized in the press for “meddling with politics,” Diana didn’t let that dissuade her from bringing this subject into the international spotlight.
Diana left behind her two sons; William now age 35 and Harry now age 33. They have both carried on their mother’s legacy of giving and they support not only the charities Diana loved so much, but also many of their own. William is married to the former Kate Middleton (whom he proposed to with his mother’s sapphire ring), and has two children, George and Charlotte, and one on the way due this spring. Diana would be very proud, indeed.

Stan Lee; Legendary comic creator
By Kevin Hudson
Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man are just a few examples of characters famous to the comic world, and in recent years, the silver screen. Many know of these fictitious personas, but do you know the man, and mind behind all the madness?
Stanley Martin Lieber, better know today as Stan Lee was born on December 28th, 1922 is the former editor-in-chief, and publisher of Marvel Comics. Currently standing at a net worth of 50 million dollars, Lee is an nonagenarian and is living easy; he is still expanding his creative work across many forms of media. Things weren’t always this way however.
Early on, Stan’s parents, Celia and Jack Lieber immigrated from Romania to New York City. While the family was happy in America, they often struggled to make ends meet. This in part to the lingering effects of the Great Depression in which as child, Stan lived through. During his adolescence, he was influenced by books, movies, and media of the time, which played into his eventual career in storytelling and production. This love of media was soon channeled into his new job as an office assistant at Timely Comics in 1939. With his developed interest in publishing, and the assistance of his uncle Robbie Solomon, he was able to make the most of his new occupation, later becoming an editor for the same company in the 1940s. Up until this point, Stan had worked on and off jobs as things like food deliveries, obituary writing, and office working. Because of this, Stan’s new job as editor was quite the step up from his previous efforts.
Before this promotion, Stan was writing filler panels and issues, or refilling inkwells. However, his first big break came after the hit success of DC Comics’ “Justice League of America,” caused Stan’s manager to make a call. This call was a career starting event that would soon change the face of comics, and publication forever. Stan’s task was to combat the rival company with a new series of comics. Starting out as a small chain of daily publications, Timely Comics would have to expand to compete with this new competition. The result of this expansion would soon headline what we know today as Marvel Comics. With Stan’s business savvy attitude and creative influence at a new forefront of the company, Marvel soon rose to success and critical acclaim across the country.
Of course, Stan couldn’t have done this by himself. During his leadership of Marvel Comics, he was assisted by comics veteran Jack Kirby, one of the three inaugural inductees to the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame, as well as one of the most influential creators to the medium. This collaboration between to the two juggernauts led to one of the most successful streaks of sales Marvel has seen in its 78 years of production. Of course, Stan Lee didn’t stray away from collaborating with creators outside of his usual range. From these unique collaborations came projects with innovative artistic director, John Romita Sr., Japanese artist and storyteller, Hiroyuki Takei, and notable writer, Bill Everett.
Later in life, Stan stepped down from multiple positions he once held in order to mentor and train the next generation of young storytellers. Passing his wisdom onto the new age, as well as being a clear look into the past of publication, his significance to media as a whole has only been amplified. Nowadays, he makes multiple cameo appearances, and creative signatures on pieces of entertainment, as a way of marking his legacy, and remembering the faithful path one of the most successful industries of today started. At the age of 94, Stan Lee’s passing in inevitable, however his many cameos, works, and influences on modern day writers will continue to reflect the past, as well as the importance he played in it all. Behind all of the heroes, villains, and personalities you may know and love, a true hero of the medium lives on today to tell this amazing story of an industry in the making.
